Incontinence Testing
Urinary incontinence
is a common gynecological complaint. Many women are not comfortable discussing
this issue. We have the capability to determine this specfic type of
incontinence and the most effective treatment needed.
- Uroflowmetry - measuring the urinary flow rate
- Cystometrograms - studies that measure the bladder's
pressure during filling and emptying
- Cystoscopy - small telescopes that look inside the
bladder
- Videourodynamics - studies that X-ray the bladder and
measure its pressure during filling and emptying

Essure Procedure (http://www.essure.com/)
The Essure procedure is
the first and only FDA approved female sterilization procedure to have zero
pregnancies in the clinical trials. The Essure procedure is permanent and is
NOT
reversible. Therefore, you should be sure you do not want children in the
future.
The Essure procedure is different than the traditional method of
a surgical tubal
ligation. With Essure there is no cutting into the body. Instead, an
Essure trained doctor inserts spring-like coils, called micro-inserts, through
the body's natural pathways (vagina, cervix, and uterus) and into your fallopian
tubes.
The procedure can be performed in the office without
general anesthesia . During the first 3 months following the procedure,
your body and the micro-inserts work together to form a tissue barrier that
prevents sperm from reaching the egg. During this period, you will need to use
another form of birth control.
After 3 months, your doctor will perform
an Essure
Confirmation Test, a special type of x-ray to confirm that your
tubes are completely blocked and you can rely on the Essure micro-inserts for
birth control.
Unlike birth control pills, patches, rings, and some
forms of IUDs, Essure does not contain hormones to interfere with your natural
menstrual cycle. Your periods should more or less continue in their natural
state.

Dexa Scan Testing
 DEXA
scan of a hip joint (Courtesy of Hologic, Inc.) The most commonly used test for
osteoporosis is called a DEXA scan.
DEXA Scan
The DEXA test is an X-ray scan that can be used to measure the amount
of bone throughout your body. In general, the denser the bones, the stronger
they are and thus bone mass or density can predict the likelihood or risk of
fracture
DEXA scan basics
- The DEXA scan evaluates bone mineral density, or
BMD.
- The results predict the likelihood of
fracture.
- BMD is generally measured in the spine and
hip.
- The DEXA scan calculates bone density based on the amount
of radiation absorbed by the bone, and compares your bone strength with that of
young premenopausal women and other women in your age group.
What to expect when you get a DEXA
scan
DEXA scans can be performed in hospital radiology
departments, free-standing radiology group facilities, or in doctors' offices.
When you get a DEXA scan, you don't need to undress, except to remove metal
objects from the area to be scanned. You simply lie down on a special table for
several minutes as the scan monitor moves over your body. You are not in an
enclosed space, the test is painless, and takes only about 20
minutes.
The amount of radiation in a usual DEXA scan is less than, the
amount of radiation in a chest X-ray (which is sometimes compared to the amount
of extra radiation you'd get from the sun if you lived for a short time at high
altitudes).

Nutrition at Charleston Women's Wellness Center
At CWWC, we take health seriously. Our goal is to maintain
good health and to encourage and promote an overall healthy lifestyle.
We have a part-time nutritionist who is available to guide and direct your
nutrition goals. Whether that goal is to lower your cholesterol by dietary
modification or to review an ideal carbohydrate intake for those who are
diabetic, we have these services available to meet your needs. You don't have
to be sick to see a nutritionist. Unfortunately, all insurance plans do not
cover nutrition services, but you will find our consultations affordable and
enriching.
If you are diabetic or have high blood pressure or high
cholesterol, your insurance may pay for your consultation. Many insurance plans
will cover your consultation for you have two or more medical problems. Please
contact us for more information.
